Semi Finals
Top Seeds Whitlock & Malliff Set For Final Clash

Emily Whitlock
Wales as both No.1 and No.2 seeds Emily Whitlock and Katie Malliff
scored comfortable semi-final victories to set up the final clash.
Home favourite Whitlock was up first as she took on England’s Anna
Kimberley for a spot in the final. The World No.22 has been in terrific
form in her opening two games and carried that on in the semi-final as
she yet again controlled proceedings on court to not give Kimberley any
chance to find a way into the match. Kimberley was never able to get
above 5 points as Whitlock stormed to victory.
Her final opponent will be another Englishwoman and No.2 seed Katie
Malliff, who made light work of France’s Elise Romba to reach her second
final of the season. Like Whitlock, Malliff is yet to drop a game in the
event and continued that form into the semi-final and again looked
strong and sharp to confidently take control of the match and close it
out in three games.
Whitlock and Malliff have never met on court before and are sure to play
out a close final for the North Wales crowd in Colwyn Bay. |
Quarter Finals
Kimberley Survives Scare To Ensure All Seeds Reach
Final Four

Anna Kimberley
The all-England clash between Anna Kimberley and Keria Marshall was the
match of the day as the Colwyn Classic reached the quarter final stage
in North Wales yesterday with the No.3 seed battling back from 2-0 down
to secure her place in the semi-finals.
Marshall started superbly in the contest and took the opening two games
in confident style, 11-6, 11-8 to place one foot in the final four.
Kimberley had other ideas however and clinched two tight games both 11-9
to force the match into a decider. Kimberley managed to continue her
momentum from the third and fourth games to take the final game 11-7 and
book her semi-final spot.
Kimberley will be up against local top seed and World No.22 Emily
Whitlock, who wasted no time in defeating England’s Polly Clark. The
Welsh No.2 stormed through the match, giving no opportunities for Clark
to settle. Whitlock took the match in must 22 minutes, 11-4, 11-1, 11-2.
In the bottom half of the draw, both seeds Elise Romba and Katie Malliff
scored straight games victories to set up their semi-final match up.
Romba overcame surprise quarter finalist Juliette Permentier in just 23
minutes to progress. Whilst Malliff defeated Welsh No.3 Lowri Roberts,
in what looked to be a competitive three-game encounter.

Round 1
Permentier Joins Top 8 Seeds in Colwyn Classic
Quarters

The Netherlands’ Juliet Permentier scored the only upset on day one of
the Colwyn Classic 2023, taking place at Le Sport Health & Fitness in
North Wales this week. The Dutch No.2 overcame Portugal’s No.7 seed
Sofia Aveiro Pita in four games to advance. Permentier conceded the
second game 11-6 but manages to show her resilience and fight to take
all of her games 11-9 and close out the match 3-1. Permentier will now
face France’s No.4 seed Elise Romba, who defeated Hungary’s Kincso Szász
in straight games to move into the quarter finals.
In the all-Welsh battle between World Team Championships teammates Lowri
Roberts and Elin Harlow, it was Roberts who managed to recover from 2-1
down to move into the last eight. Harlow took a tight third game 14-12
bit couldn’t continue her momentum as Roberts captured the following two
games 11-6 to take the 37-minute five-setter. She’s now up against No.2
seed Katie Malliff, who wasted no time in despatching compatriot Jasmine
Kalar in just 19 minutes.
Top seed Emily Whitlock is competing in her home club this week in
Colwyn Bay and started her campaign with a confident, quick win over
England’s Katie Wells. The Lincolnshire player didn’t manage to score
more than three points in any game as she fell to the World No.22 in 16
minutes. Whitlock will now play compatriot Chloe Foster who scored a
confident win over Yorkshire’s Polly Clark. Foster only got better as
the match went on as she won 11-8, 11-6, 11-4 to book her place in the
quarters.
The final quarter final match up will be an all-English affair between
Anna Kimberely and Keira Marshall, who both recorded straight game
victories over Scotland’s Ellie Jones and Sanne Veldkamp to set up an
exciting match for a place in the semi-finals. |
