Final

Mexican No.1 Cardenas Claims 14th PSA Title



Mexican No.1 and World No.27 Leonel Cardenas overcame compatriot Alfredo Avila in the final of the STT Petróleos Open 2023 Challenger Tour 10 event yesterday to claim his 14th PSA title and his first on home soil.

Cardenas defeated another compatriot Jorge Gomez in the semi-final to set up the final with Avila, who needed four games to beat Egypt’s Ibrahim Elkabbani in four games in his semi-final.

The opening game of the final was full of quality with both players looking to fire the ball in short and use their fast movement to cover the court. Cardenas reached 13-12 in the opening game but unfortunately Avila was forced to withdraw at this point, handing the title to Cardenas.
