Adel wins
Squash Player’s Player of the Month award
Egypt’s
Yathreb Adel is Squash Player’s Women’s Player of the Month for
October after reaching the semi-finals of the $50,000 Macau Open in
September as a qualifier.
In the process, the 21-year-old world no.229 beat top seed Raneem El
Welily 3/2 and seventh seed Joey Chan 3/0 before losing in straight
games to fourth seed Joelle King.
“This achievement means a lot to me,” said the former University of
Roehampton student, who was as high as 25th in the world rankings
two years ago until undergoing an ankle operation.
“It has been a long journey since I was injured and I’m just very
happy to be back playing my squash. I missed so much being on tour
and I was extremely excited about the tournament.
“I couldn't have asked for a better comeback or a better start to
the season. Raneem is one of my role models and it’s never easy
playing her. Getting wins against the top players gives me a lot of
confidence and is a huge push for me to keep going.
“My target for now is to break into the top 10 in the world rankings
and keep chasing the no.1 spot.”
