December - MEN'S PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Mohamed ElShorbagy wins Squash Player’s Player of the Month award

Egypt’s Mohamed ElShorbagy is Squash Player’s Player of the Month, after winning November’s PSA Tour Platinum event – the Hong Kong Open.

The world no.1 defeated compatriot Ali Farag in straight games in the final to avenge his 3/1 loss to the world no.2 in the NetSuite Open decider in the USA in October.

It was the 35th PSA title of ElShorbagy’s career, which moved him up to joint eighth in the all-time winners’ list, level with Nick Matthew.
“I’m really pleased to be able to come here and play my best squash,” said ElShorbagy, after his 11-6, 11-7, 11-7 triumph over the second seed earned the 27-year-old his fourth Hong Kong triumph in five years.

“It’s always great when it all comes together. I’m really proud of my performance, but not to take anything away from Ali, I have nothing but respect for him.
“He came to the Tour later than all of us and came up the rankings very fast. Very few people can do what he did and he’s coming after me, but I’m trying to hold him a little bit.

“We’ve played twice already this season. He beat me once and now I’ve beaten him. I’m sure we will have many more battles and compete in more finals.”
