January - WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Adel wins Squash Player’s Player of the Month award
Fast-rising
Egyptian Yathreb Adel has won Squash Player’s Women’s Player of the
Month award for winning the biggest event of her career in December at
the $18,000 Pakistan Open.
The 22-year-old, ranked as low as 231st in the world in June 2017,
entered the top 20 for the first time on New Year’s Day as a result of
the ninth PSA Tour title from just 13 finals.
She fully justified her no.1 seeding in Karachi by beating compatriot
Nadine Shahin 3/0 in just 21 minutes to collect her first trophy since
winning the Salt Lake City Open in the USA in March.
Afterwards Adel tweeted: “Couldn’t be any happier for winning the title
and reaching my highest world ranking no.22 this month! The best end for
2018! A very positive week.”
Her next event is the $180,000 Tournament of Champions in New York,
which starts on January 18. Her first-round opponent is England’s
Julianne Courtice, whom she beat in Salt Lake in their only previous
meeting.
