March - WOMEN'S PLAYER OF THE MONTH
El Hammamy wins Squash Player’s Player of the Month
award
Egypt’s
Hania El Hammamy has won Squash Player’s Women’s Player of the Month
award, after recording back-to-back titles in February, including the
biggest triumph of her career.
In each tournament the Cairo teenager did not drop a game and in both
finals defeated the favourite, despite being seeded second.
El Hammamy first toppled American Olivia Blatchford Clyne in the $18,000
Edinburgh Sports Club Open in Scotland and then beat England’s Victoria
Lust in the $28,000 Cincinatti Cup in the USA.
“Happy to win the biggest title of my career in Cincinnati,” the
18-year-old tweeted after her American success. “A big thank you goes to
my coach, Haitham Ashoush. Also, thanks to my sponsors, CIB Egypt,
Tecnifibre and Heliopolis Club.”
Her double success completed a great start to 2019 for El Hammamy, who
won the British Junior Open under-19 title for the second time in
January.
