Dear squash community,
We're happy to be honouring Women's Squash Week
this week, an international celebration and
opportunity to engage women in our sport
worldwide. It's also a reminder of all the great
women in squash who have helped shape the game
to the spectacle we see today and those who
continue to do our sport proud.
This Women's Squash Week we pay tribute to our
former president, Susie Simcock, a
recognised pioneer in the world of squash and
IOC Women in Sport award winner. Also we'd like
to mention Raneem El Welily, a great advocate of
the sport who retired as World No.1 earlier in
the year but leaves a huge legacy behind.
Women have contributed to the development of
squash in a big way, but we know the future of
our sport will come from our capacity to attract
young players. We pride ourselves on being a
diverse, welcoming sport and hope we can attract
juniors from all corners of the globe.
I encourage you to
follow the talk this
Saturday, where
some of the best players in the world, including
current World No.1 Nouran Gohar, will
be stepping off the court and into the spotlight
to answer questions about what it's like to be a
female squash player and how they made the
transition to become a professional.
I hope you will enjoy the talk and, in the
meantime, stay safe, stay healthy.
