Day TWO - Sat 24th Jan
Qualifying Finals:
El Weleily makes the main draw
Egypt's Raneem El Weleily, the British Junior Open U17 champion,
continued her spectacular run in Kuwait, beating the USA's Latasha Khan in a
five-game thriller to reach the main draw. Her reward is a match against top
seed Cassie Jackman. No surprises in the other qualifying finals as
Shelley Kitchen, Isabelle Stoehr and Madeline Perry booked
main draw places.
In men's qualifying yesterday's surprise winner Dan Jenson
couldn't find a repeat performance as he went down in three to Nick
Taylor, but Azlan Iskandar and Hisham Moh'd Ashour managed
to upset the seedings as they beat Renan Lavigne and Mark Chaloner
respectively. James Willstrop joined them in the main draw with a
comfortable 3/0 win over Omar Elborolossy. |
