JOYCE BUCKLEY

Joyce Buckley was co-opted to the WSF Management Committee in September 1999, following the early retirement of Dr. Anne Smith (Canada), and formally elected as Vice-President in Hong Kong, November 2000.

Joyce is well known in squash circles, as she has been involved with the European Squash Federation since 1985, ending her term in April 1999, as the first female Regional President.

Playing all her club squash at Sandcove Squash & Tennis Club she captained her team to Provincial success in 1986 and 1987. After serving as Provincial League Secretary for many years she was elected to the Management of the Irish Squash Federation where she became President and Chairman of the Organising Committee for the World Women’s Championship, U19 Women’s Championships and the European Team Championships in the mid-eighties.

In her private life she was a partner in a well-known Dublin Public Relations Company, only selling out her interest to enable her to devote time to the role of President of European Squash.

Asked to comment on her commitment to Squash Joyce says "Squash at club level in the 1970’s was a wonderful time for making friends, keeping fit and playing what I believe to be the best game ever invented!

My current involvement is a recognition of payback time for the positive influence Squash has had on my life and my desire to see the game flourish, grow and find it’s rightful place on the Olympic platform."
