Adel and Coleman win Wimbledon Cup
Yathreb
Adel and Ben Coleman became the 2015 Wimbledon Cup Champions. The
event sponsored by Ryan Leisure Acivities Ltd, Russell-Cooke
Solicitors, Equity Invest, The University of Roehampton and Unibet
was a great success and both finals lived up to the excitement.
In the ladies final Yathreb Adel, who currently studies at the
University of Roehampton and trains at Wimbledon Racquets & Fitness
Club, took on last year's winner Madeline Perry, who was fresh back
from her time in the jungle. Perry was certainly playing in
confident fashion and was enjoying her squash while pushing Adel all
the way in four tightly fought games.
Adel was always in front in the first game but was struggling to
hold back the errors which allowed Perry back to 10 all after a 10-7
lead, but Adel finished the game strongly to win on the two clear
points.
Adel raced to a 5-0 lead in the second but followed a similar
pattern to the first game by making a number of errors which allowed
Perry to edge in front. Perry took the initiative and saw the game
out 11-7 with a dominant finish to the game.
The third game was nip and tuck all the way and Perry held a game
ball at 10-9 only for Adel to hold her nerve taking the next three
points and earn a crucial 2-1 lead. Adel stayed in front all the way
in the fourth game making fewer errors and attacked with confidence,
showing off some very deceptive weapons. Adel took the title with an
11-8 score in the fourth and was delighted to win in front of her
home club members and friends.
The number 2 seed Ben Coleman was the favourite going into the men's
final against Lyell Fuller, who was fresh from his excellent semi
final victory over the no.1 seed Charles Sharpes. Both Coleman and
Fuller were in excellent form all tournament and the spectators were
treated to a very competitve four game final.
Fuller stuck with Coleman in the first two games to 7-7 but Coleman
used his experience to up the pace when it mattered to pull away and
win them 11-9 & 11-8. Fuller never looked like letting it go though,
despite the 2 game deficit and kicked on to build up a healthy 6-2
lead in the third. Coleman tried to build the pressure again but
Fuller was finding the spaces and executing his shots in a confident
style to pull the match score back to 1-2.
Fuller continued to press his game onto Coleman in the fourth
controlling the pace of the game on the way to building up leads of
5-3 and 6-4, but a run of 5 straight points from Coleman as he
adapted his game when under pressure but him in command of the
match. The Wimbledon Cup Champion saw the final game out 11-7 in a
very high quality match.
We look forward to hosting the Wimbledon Cup next year around the
same time!
