REPORTS

Palomino Claims Second Win Of Season

Colombia’s Ronald Palomino overcame compatriot Edgar Ramirez Bautista to win the PSA Regatas Resistencia Open – 10th Edition, claiming his second victory of the season on Tour.

The Colombian came into the Challenger 10 level as the top seed, and the World No.82 was in top form throughout the tournament, dropping just a single game across his four matches en route to the victory.

He started with a comfortable win over Pedro Mometto in the second round, after receiving a bye through the first day’s action thanks to his seeding for the tournament. That was followed by another straight games win, this time against USA’s Andrew Douglas, the No.6 seed for the event.

The semis of the Challenger 10 level event saw the only game that Palomino dropped, with the fellow Colombian Andres Herrera giving him a scare halfway through their last four encounter. The pair were level after two games, but it was the top seed who came through to win in four games.

The final threw the World No.82 up against another Colombian in Edgar Ramirez Bautista, and it was comfortable to start with, as Palomino ran out into a two game lead, dropping just nine points in the process. The third game was much tighter, going to a tie-break, but it was the tournament’s top seed that came through to take it 13-11 to secure his second victory of the season, after winning in Guatemala in November.

Colombian's Palomino And Bautista To Meet

The Colombian duo of Ronald Palomino and Edgar Ramirez Bautista will meet in the final of the PSA Regatas Resistencia Open in Argentina, after getting the better of Andres Herrera and Valentin Rapp, respectively.

Palomino, the top seed for the Challenger 10 level competition, came up against fellow Colombian Andres Herrera, the No.7 seed, in the semi-finals on Friday afternoon. The pair were level after two games, but the World No.82 was able to fight through, winning the last two games, dropping just eight points across them.

The Colombian will now face compatriot Edgar Ramirez Bautista in the final on Saturday, after the tournament’s No.4 seed got the better of No.2 seed Valentin Rapp in an 83-minute, five-game battle. Bautista led twice in the contest, only to see the German fight back on both occasions. It went to a decider, and that itself went to a tie-break, with Bautista taking it 13-11 to book his spot in the final.

The final of the PSA Regatas Resistencia Open will see Edgar Ramirez Bautista and Ronald Palomino face off, and will take place on Saturday, June 4, and the action will be streamed live on the PSA Challenger Tour YouTube channel.

No 2 Seed Rapp Survives Scare To Reach Quarters

German No.2 seed Valentin Rapp survived a bruising encounter with Colombia's Andres Villamizar to reach the quarter-final of the PSA Regatas Resistencia Open – 10th Edition.

World No.128 Rapp got off to a difficult start in the match when World No.288 Villamizar took the opening game , with the Colombian looking sharp and pouncing whenever opportunities presented themselves.

The German, though, was eventually able to pull ahead with a pair of dominant 11-4, 11-2 wins, before eventually taking the match with a 13-11 victory in the fourth to end the clash in 55 minutes.

Rapp's opponent in the quarter-finals will be Belgian No.5 seed Joeri Hapers, after the 31-year-old overcame an 11-2 opening game defeat to beat Argentina's Gonzalo Pujol.

Joining them will be Ricardo Toscano, Edgar Ramirez Bautista, Andres Herrera, Guilherme Melo, top seed Ronald Palomino and Andrew Douglas, after they picked up wins to progress.
