Rooney Breaks Top 20 for First Time in PSA Men’s World Rankings

England’s Patrick Rooney has broken into the top 20 of the PSA Men’s World Rankings for the first time after he rose six places in the rankings for May.

Rooney reached the semi finals of the Manchester Open as well as the last 16 of the Allam British Open in April and will be the first Englishman since James Willstrop in August, 2021 to feature inside the top 20.

New Zealand’s Paul Coll stays at No.1 for a third successive month, while Ali Farag (No.2), Mohamed ElShorbagy (No.3), Mostafa Asal (No.4) and Diego Elias complete the top five.

Tarek Momen stays at No.6, while Welshman Joel Makin rises two spots to a career-high ranking of No.7 after claiming his biggest title at last month’s Manchester Open.

Egypt’s Mazen Hesham also secures a career-high ranking of No.8 after moving up two spots, with Marwan ElShorbagy and Fares Dessouky dropping two places to No.9 and No.10, respectively.

Karim Abdel Gawad rises to No.11 and Youssef Ibrahim falls to No.12. Gregoire Marche and Miguel Rodriguez stay at No.13 and No.14, respectively, while Nicolas Mueller becomes the first Swiss player to reach No.15 in the world after a quarter final finish at the British Open.

Youssef Soliman falls to No.16, with Saurav Ghosal remaining at No.17. Mohamed Abouelghar drops two spots to No.18, with the final place inside the top 20 going to Germany’s Raphael Kandra, who moves up three places to No.19.

Switzerland’s Tim Roesch is the biggest mover on the men’s tour this month after rising 230 places to No.560 in the world after reaching the semi final of the Sekisui National in April.
